“Likteņdārzs” /Destiny Garden/ is an open air park-memorial place in honor to the 600 000 Latvians who died and suffered under the totalitarian regimes of 20th century. The author of the park’s  conceptual idea is Landscape Architect Shunmyo Masuno and “Japan Landscape Consultants“  who are the winners of the competition organized by “Kokneses fonds“ (2006).

Construction works of the multifunctional building in the North part of the park started this year, and was designed by "Arhis Arhitekti". The idea is based on the continuation of “Likteņdārzs” concept about the reflection of a road or a bridge between the past and the future. The building will be open to all visitors, providing space for the park administration, cafeteria and various events. The public roof will give an oportunity to see a whole territory from a different angle. Conceptually high emphasis has been paid to the materiality and tectonics of the building, creating a unified architectural approach to both outdoor space as well as the interior.
